How to Obtain a PSV Badge (For Matatu Drivers, Tour, Company Drivers and Conductors)
The procedure for acquiring a PSV badge for Matatus, Tours, and Company vehicles is exclusively conducted through the respective company’s or SACCO’s portals. To obtain a badge, you must visit the office of your SACCO, Tour, or company and request a badge application. This badge will grant you authorization to operate vehicles owned by that particular SACCO, Tour, or company exclusively.
It’s important to understand that the badge issued by your company or SACCO is not transferable for driving or conducting duties with vehicles from another SACCO or company.
The requirements to get a Matatu driver PSV badge:
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Have at Least 3 years of Driving Experience.
- Hold a valid national ID.
- Have a valid driving license with category D.
The requirements to get a Matatu Conductor PSV badge
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have at least a KCPE certificate.
- Have completed SACCO training.
How to Obtain a PSV Badge For Taxi Drivers
To obtain a PSV badge for taxis, the process is facilitated through the Ecitizen portal. You can acquire one promptly after submitting your application on your Citizen account.
Here’s how to proceed:
- Visit Ecitizen and log in using your credentials.
- Navigate to the NTSA section within the portal.
- You’ll find your driving license details displayed.
- Under the “Services” tab, you’ll see an option to apply for a PSV badge. If you meet the requirements, the process is straightforward.
- Upload a passport photo as instructed.
- Complete the payment process.
- Upon payment confirmation, you’ll receive a link to download your PSV badge in PDF format. Print it out for your records.
Fees for a PSV Badge
Applying for a PSV badge incurs a fee of 1050 Kenyan shillings. Ecitizen collects 1000 shillings for the badge itself and an additional 50 shillings for convenience charges. Payment options include M-Pesa, Airtel Money, T-kash, and various card payment methods.
Validity of a PSV License
A PSV badge remains valid for one year from the date of issue. It’s essential to renew the PSV badge annually using the processes outlined above.
How to Check if a PSV Badge is Valid
To confirm the presence of a PSV badge in the NTSA system, download the NTSA app from the Play Store. After logging in with your credentials, navigate to the menu and select “Verify PSV Badge.” Enter your ID number and click on “Verify” to proceed.
