Last year, the Kenyan government revamped eCitizen, integrating over 8,000 services into the country’s largest government website, ecitizen.go.ke. Accessing eCitizen services now requires a phone number or email address for security reasons.
Security Measures
eCitizen houses a wide range of personal information, from details about children and vehicles to companies and land ownership. To protect this sensitive data, eCitizen has implemented security measures such as:
- Password Protection: Your account is secured with a password.
- OTP Verification: Each time you log in, a One-Time Password (OTP) is sent to your registered phone number or email. This ensures that you authorize every login attempt.
Reasons for Changing Your Phone Number and Email on eCitizen
When you first registered on eCitizen, the system only required a user ID and password. With the introduction of OTPs and other security enhancements during last year’s integration, the phone number or email you originally registered with is now crucial for accessing your account. If you no longer have access to these, you’ll need to update them to continue using eCitizen services.
