How to Register as a Teacher and Obtain a TSC Number in Kenya

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Act 2012, Article 237, mandates the commission to register all qualified teachers before they can teach in any public or private institution in Kenya. A TSC number is essential for anyone looking to establish a career in teaching, and it is a requirement to ensure that teachers meet the necessary qualifications and standards.

Requirements for a Teacher Registration

To successfully register as a teacher and obtain a TSC number, you need to apply online through the TSC portal. The process is straightforward, but it’s crucial to ensure that you have all the necessary documents ready before beginning the application. Hereโ€™s what youโ€™ll need:

  1. Certified Copies of Academic and Professional Certificates: These should be scanned and uploaded to the TSC portal.
  2. National Identity Card (ID): A clear scanned copy of your ID is required.
  3. Bank Slip: This is proof of payment of the registration fee.
  4. Passport Size Photo: Ensure the photo is recent and clear.
  5. KRA PIN: Youโ€™ll need to upload a copy of your KRA PIN certificate.
  6. GP69 Form: This is a medical form that must be filled out and signed by a registered medical practitioner.
  7. Certificate of Good Conduct: This is obtained from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
  8. Entry and Work Permits for Non-Kenyans: If you are a foreigner, youโ€™ll need to provide these permits.

Registration Fees For A TSC number Application

  • New Registration: A non-refundable fee of Kshs. 1050/- is required. Payment can be made through the eCitizen government payment methods, including MPesa, Airtel Money, KCB Cash, Equity Cash, and E-Agent.
  • Duplicate Certificate Application: If you need to apply for a duplicate certificate, a non-refundable fee of Kshs. 2050/- is required.

Important: Ensure that only original documents are scanned and uploaded during the application process.

Step-by-Step Guide to Register for a TSC Number

  1. Visit the TSC Online Portal: Start by accessing the TSC website (tsc.go.ke) and navigating to the registration section.
  2. Create an Account or Log In: If youโ€™re a first-time user, youโ€™ll need to create an account. If you already have an account, simply log in.
  3. Fill in the Required Details: Complete the online registration form by entering your personal and professional details.
  4. Upload Required Documents: Ensure that all the necessary documents are scanned and uploaded as required.
  5. Pay the Registration Fee: Use the available eCitizen payment methods to pay the fee.
