Steps to Take Before Applying for a Duplicate Logbook

Step 1: Report the Loss to the Police

First, visit the nearest police station to report the loss. This is crucial as you’ll need a police abstract when applying for your duplicate logbook, just like with other important documents.

Step 2: Obtain an Affidavit from a Commissioner of Oaths

Next, you’ll need an affidavit. You can get this with the help of a lawyer or advocate. The affidavit serves as a legal statement confirming that your original logbook is lost.

Step 3: Get a Tape Lift

A tape lift is necessary to verify your vehicle’s chassis number. This involves the DCI using cello tape to lift the number from the chassis and placing it on an official tapelift document.

How to Apply for a Duplicate Logbook

Once you’ve completed the above steps, you’re ready to apply for a duplicate logbook through the NTSA service portal. You can do this from the comfort of your home or office, as long as you have internet access.

Step 1: Log in to the NTSA Service Portal

Visit either serviceportal.ntsa.go.ke or ecitizen.go.ke to log in. Use the eCitizen OAuth feature to sign in. Make sure you are on the NTSA dashboard and that your vehicle appears.

Step 2: Apply for a Duplicate Logbook and Upload Documents

On your dashboard, select your vehicle and click “Duplicate Logbook.” Answe the reason for your application and upload all required documents in one file, then submit.

Step 3: Preview and Pay

After submission, review your information to ensure accuracy, including your logbook collection details. If everything looks good, proceed to make your payment through major providers like Mpesa.

Application Fee: Ksh 2,550

Once you’ve completed these steps, your application for a duplicate vehicle logbook will be submitted, and you can put your worries behind you!
